Commissions: Doctor Strange
on February 13th, 2009
I am grouchy after the annoying events yesterday, so for now, have a Doctor Strange pic – another convention commission – and I will back away from the internet lest I commit an act for which I may be arrested.
The Stoic philosophers never anticipated the rigors of the internet. Alas, Marcus Aurelius! Your lessons avail me naught.
Doctor Strange always makes me feel better, though.
I’d like to draw that comic someday.
Ah, the healing power of comics!
I think I will go read one right now.
You should, too!
Feel the power! Feel the power! Feel the power of comic book love!

I recommend Phil and Kaja Foglio’s “Girl Genius” for joyous, time wasting, forget about the world, fun.
And, um… Stephen IS wearing tights in that drawing, no? I don’t see any wrinkles…but then I don’t see any hair either…
I would never put wrinkles in the good Doctor’s tights. He has such nice legs, why break the line?
That’s a really cool Strange…we need to get TwoMorrows to do one of those Modern Masters books with you so we can get all of this in one book…
Here’s something to take your mind off yesterday:

By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth! That’s a mighty fine drawing.
Awesome link, Ray! Thanks for that!
Allan, I had about two weeks to just sit and finish off old stuff, including these commissions. I was also in NYC a few days early and managed to bring a few more under the wire.
Why I take to so long to do them, I do not know. They are an awful lot of fun.
I only take on characters and ideas I actually want to do, so that helps a lot.
I really would love to do a Doctor Strange comic sometime. Finishing off some Legion commissions practically made me weepy. I spent part of NYCC begging Paul Levitz for a crack at the Legion of Superheroes again.
I was wrong when I said I had only one commission left: I have one large painting and one large drawing. I also had to do a couple more freebies for people who had waited a long time for orders and deserved an extra! So, I will be posting all of those in the coming days.
About those tights…
Back in the day, they used to call space suits on all those science fiction pulp covers “bulgers”, for obvious reasons.
Kelly Freas told me he once turned in a cover painting of space men and bulgers, only to have the editor declare, “What, wrinkles in a bulger?”
No wrinkles in super-tights, and no wrinkles in space suits.
I suppose it’s all a matter of taste in our hip modern times, but I’m partial to wrinkle- free super sartorial splendor.
The good Doctor is looking quite handsome. I wish he made housecalls.
Me, too! Squee!
