Harry Potter is Of the Devil
on March 1st, 2009Another installment in the never-ending battle between religious nutters and Harry Potter, this time brought to you courtesy of the Iranian News Channel:
The Harry Potter film series reached the cinema following the success of the Zionist propaganda machine which made this little known author and her book famous……It can be viewed as a compilation of secrets and of theories used by the Zionist media…The Zionists support Harry Potter because he is the promised Messiah.
Good lord.
And over here, Al Nickerson inquires of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, whateverthehell happened to that autographed Danish flag. Alas, all his links to my old blog are all gone. Sorry about that.
Oh, one more to add: Iran demands group of actors in Tehran for a nice cultural visit apologize for films such as 300 and the Wrestler for being “insulting to Iranians”. Neither film was shown in Iran.
I sigh.
Personally, I loved all those firm naked abs.

Wow. Such sensitive little flowers Iranians – especially in expecting people unrelated to the two films to apologize for them. Good grief.
I am in awe of the level of wonky.
BTW, the UN is trying to pass an anti-blasphemy resolution. Lou Dobbs interview with Christopher Hitchens transcript here:

It would be an understatement to describe this resolution as an assault on free speech.
Anyway, the King of Persia ala Frank Miller was a gorgeous, 9 foot tall metrosexual with a keen fashion sense.
So, what’s not to like?
It’d be really nice of the Islamic nations that are so rabidly concerned about anti-blasphemy of their beliefs would extend that same courtesy to other faiths — like the Jewish faith, or Christian, or Buddhists (all those lovely statues being destroyed in some lands).
And yeah, definitely an assault on free speech.
Maybe when they apologize for the hostages in 1979, suppression of women’s rights and the rampant anti-semitism then MAYBE we’ll begin to feel some empathy over an over-exaggerated response to works of fiction.
