By the way, I'm glad some people like my blog, but please don't hotlink images. Some site called Solia has a message board and one of the users had posted this pic. Stealing bandwidth is bad karma. I removed the original image and changed the file name. It's simplicity itself to put this image on your desktop and post without using other people's bandwidth. Thanks.

Fear mongering like this makes me shake my head. It certainly makes me wonder how much grounding in reality these people have. Of course these same people are the ones who make up the banned book list so its not surprising.

My Mom made sure if it was a banned book I got a copy of it when I was a kid because she didn't want some religious prudes dictating what I should or shouldn't read.

Jeremy -- Hee. yes!

Once I was down at the LA public library, browsing in the science fiction/fantasy shelves. I came across the books of Christopher Stasheff, the "Warlock in Spite of Himself" series (which I own and enjoy immensely!), and found the books were all turned spine down, so you couldn't see the titles.

I assumed one of these pure, pristine minds had come along and assumed, based on the title, that it was about Satanic matters, praising them. In fact, the books are science fiction set in a world of people with ESP powers (having been colonized by SCA-types a couple centuries before). Thematically, they are about reason and democracy, and the matter of real choices between good and evil (advocating GOOD, of course). But because the titles are about "warlocks" and "witches" -- they were condemned by that careful little Protector Of Public Virtue.

Geeesh. And good luck on trying to tell these ijits that over-all, the HP stories are highly Christian in their morals and outlook. Ha.

Back in college, a friend of mine used to work at a Barnes&Noble and he told me how someone came in asking about the Harry Potter books. My friend asked what the problem was and the person went into a tirade about how awful they are. So my friend countered with, "Well, we also have a book that is even worse. It has Satan, genocide, sex, and all sorts of things that should really make you mad."

The person asked about the name of the book and my friend went "The bible". Still cracks me up.

Someone who made a career out of playing songs backwards to find satanic messages claimed to have found one in the theme from "Mister Ed." He said the back-masked lyric was "someone sung the song of Satan." I heard it and it sounded more like "zzzwmmmwnn sssggnngg zzzzzz nnggggg ffff snnnnnngmmmmfffffff."

(Sorry, it's hard to spell out what I heard. That's the best I could do.)
