I should correct a couple of details there: much as I love Sue Dawe (she’s a friend), we haven’t confirmed that she will actually make it up to LA yet.
Secondly, the url for the conference is actually

Little details. Heh.
I was going over the programming schedule with my partner in crime on this, and we’ve got a very cool tentative schedule (with a goodly number of Tolkien presentations). Plus, we’re really going to make James earn his keep.
We’re going to be posting the schedule at that URL shortly, so people can get an idea of some of the fun things we’ve got on the slate.
The conference sounds cool, and it’s even at my day job, which I affectionately call Saltmine U. Alas that it is days before Comic-Con, and I will be completely melting down in last-minute prep. ;/
A couple of non-obvious things about campus that might be helpful:
1-Parking. One thing you might want to pass on to attendees is that the UCLA police department gives parking tickets with a zeal worthy of inquisitors; towing and impounding cars makes their day, so be sure to have your registration current, and get a parking pass. Or Else. I strongly recommend that folks go and get their parking passes first thing at the parking kiosk on Westwood Blvd, as it’s the only one that’s always open. (Take Westwood all the way north into campus; they’ll stop you, let you pay for parking, and give you directions to De Neve, or anywhere else you want to go.)
2-Internet connection. If you want to be able to use the campus wireless network, you’ll need some guest logon IDs, and Housing & Hospitality, god love ‘em, doesn’t always tell people how to go about that, so here’s how. Ask for the guest logon IDs early, as if you wait until the first day of the conference, there will be crankiness.
Thanks for the inside info, VT! We are aware of the parking thing – and in fact are encouraging attendees to order parking in advance (those staying on campus are likely to be parking at DD).
The on-campus conference coordinator had mentioned the guest logon ID stuff, but she hadn’t said anything about letting them know early! She just said we’d have to go to the center to get the password. So, it is good to know details on that!
And… after reading through the smaller print DOUBLE THANKS, VT! I could see myself arriving on campus on the Thursday, and end up pulling my hair for not knowing this sooner. I’d have images of dozens of internet addiction-crazed attendees staking me out in the Plaza for overlooking this! (Well, maybe not that extreme.)
And yeah, Mythcon is the weekend before ComicCon. I’m going to be using ComicCon as an unwind.
What James will be using it for, I don’t know. (He’s bringing his family along to Mythcon, though, so hopefully he’ll have fun.)
No problem.
