Comic Book Tattoo Wins the Eisner

For Best Anthology, that is. Go us!

Here are the rest of the winners, and I don’t really have much to say about the list except I am a little stunned that Lynda Barry got shut out (of the best painter award, that is…)

So glad to see awards go to Evanier’s Jack Kirby book, and Little Nemo. As always, Chris Ware. I picked up the latest at a book fair on remainder for only $4.50. Gorgeous.

I can’t really comment on most because I simply am not familiar with them, but here’s Amazon links to the good stuff. The Kirby book gets my highest recommendation. I found the back story of Kirby’s professional struggles particularly moving. Young creators seem to think the top guns like Kirby never had to struggle. This book will put that sort of myth to rest. About Kirby, anyway.

I’m seeing Lynda Barry’s “What it is” winning Best Reality Based Work. Or am I reading the list wrong?

Congrats to you on the group win. Also to CSM for “Finder” :-) since I know she’ll be by here at some point later…

Yeah, I meant to say I think she should have gotten best painter. I think Barry’s work was, hands down, the best artistic achievement of the year. In comics. Period.

And ditto for Finder. I love Carla.

And BTW, not that anyone is freaking out or anything, but my devotion to Lynda Barry is not a knock against the other winners. It’s just that her work was so outstanding, I am perplexed it was not nominated in more categories and did not win more awards.

Oh well, everyone blogs about what they wished had won, don’t they?

    Congrats to the winners anyway!

Am I the only person who can’t see the appeal of Chris Ware’s work..?

Nah, I’ve heard other people say they don’t like his work, but I think he’s brilliant.

Then again, there are some other artists whose I don’t care for.

I have learned to keep those opinions to myself, though! Never know when I may run into one of those people! LOL!

Have I mentioned that I love Comic Book Tattoo? Because I do, you know. It has a proud place on my coffee table, where I can easily re-read it and show it off. :)

Oh, and one of the best pieces in the book was drawn by someone named Colleen Doran. Mustn’t forget that.
