Lord of the Rings Week: The Death of Glorfindel
on October 4th, 2009
Actually, that’s from The Silmarillion.
I’ll be at the Lord of the Rings concert and lecture series this week (scroll down for info.)
I’ve done some Lord of the Rings licensing art for which I am usually hired to work in a style as much like Alan Lee as possible. With varying degrees of success. I am a professional chameleon. Last week, I spent a couple of days drawing cartoon pictures of Yoda.
I also enjoy doing illustrations for the Tolkien Society journals and other works. My pictures have appeared in Mallorn and will be featured in an upcoming issue of the Silver Leaves Journal.

Ooooo! Neato! (I know folks in the Tolkien Society — I should get their publications.)
Years ago, I and two artist friends did a “competition” (in MYTHLORE) of taking the passage of Glorfindel and the balrog and doing our own versions. We each chose slightly different moments. And — I admit it — I forgot Glorfindel was supposed to have armor and a weapon, so it did it more as a spiritual/magical battle. On the other hand, my balrog radiates darkness.

Ish. I posted like a complete egotist.
By the way, Colleen (heh — I keep wanting to type your name as “Cooleen”) LOVE YOUR BALROG!!
