Shilling for my Friends

I wish I had more time to blog today, because my team of web spies spent the entire weekend sending me links to hilarious wank. I can’t wait to show you!

But I have to. I ate lots of turkey and didn’t draw much. And this week I will pay for it.

So, go read this:

The J Michael Straczynski co-penned Ninja Assassin did not please many critics, but audience ratings were largely positive at BoxOfficeMojo. Because the audience which goes to see a movie named Ninja Assassin of their own free will is not expecting to see Shakespeare in Love.

The film had over $21,000,000 box office its first weekend against a budget of $40,000,000. This one will have no trouble moving into the black, and it will be very big in Japan. And Korea.

Steve Bissette is a lovely fellow with lots of news:

* My latest book project THE VERMONT MONSTER GUIDE has been out since September, scoring solid reviews, and regional sales.

You can order your copy and check out art, previews, tour schedule here.

* My latest short story “Copper” is coming out in February 2010 in THE NEW DEAD, from St. Martin’s Press.

* My cover art and interior illustrations (created in collaboration with 2009 Ignatz Award winner Cayetano ‘Cat’ Garza Jr.) for the limited edition signed hardcover edition of THE NEW DEAD will also be out in 2010, from Subterranean Press.

* Lots of new sketches, art for sale at Comic Art Fan:

* Lots of new stuff at my daily blog and site MYRANT, including ongoing comics (posted every two days), new instructional ‘how to’ pages, and much more:

I’ve launched the MYRANT comics feature with serialized archival work (now running the never-reprinted 1978/80 story “Crabs!”), which will alternate with all-new serialized comics beginning in December.

* Article on Michael Hurley’s overlooked underground “Boon & Jocko” comix published in FUNNY AMINALS #1, along with new work by Bryan Stone, Joe Lambert and others!

* And, of course, I’m still teaching every week at the Center for Cartoon Studies.

* A lot of other odds and ends saw print in 2009 — with lots of new projects already well underway for 2010, TBA as they reach fruition. Plenty of surprises coming up!

(PS: Finally, despite numerous attempts in 2009 to find a publisher or partner for publishing TYRANT, it’s been a fruitless year in that department. Better luck in 2010, I hope.)
