Some months ago, I posted about this incident. My brother saved the life of his landlady when he pulled her from a burning car after she drove through her garage and passed out at the wheel.
For this he received the Gold Medal at the annual Valor Awards, given to law enforcement, fire and rescue persons who perform acts of heroism above and beyond the call of duty.

The ubiquitous proud parents.

Naturally, I think my big brother is a swell fellow, but it’s nice to know other people think he’s awesome, too.

That’s fantastic that he got recognized! He totally deserves it. He is not just awesome… he’s HAWESOME.
And single.
Just sayin’.
Alas, but he is 2600+ miles away.
As tolerant as my current man is of my many lovely male friends (whom he’s dubbed ‘your harem’), he might actually get jealous if I flew out. I shall add your brother to my list of Men to Have Sekrit Torrid and Hopeless Long-Distance Affairs With, and content myself with admiring him from afar.
It’s suddenly gettin’ all Hello Dolly around here…
THAT GUY IS SPOOOOKY, KEEP HIM AWAY FROM ME, MAN
LOL! I can sure tell you read this blog!!!
As I read this post, I thought about the several police officers in the Rochester, N.Y. area who have been shot in the line of duty over the last few years. As NYS Governor David Patterson put it, these are “special” people who put others’ welfare before their own. We shouldn’t take them for granted.
Do me a favor, Colleen: thank your brother for me. Not because he aided me directly — he didn’t, of course — but because he and others like him make this a safer world for the rest of us.
