I did not work on Marvel’s Girl Comics and never even heard of it.
on January 18th, 2010There appears to be a problem with this solicitation.

My editors at DC will be very happy to know that I am not slacking on my deadlines by sneaking off to work at Marvel, because I never even heard of this book.
I don’t know if that makes this book returnable.
Don’t blame me. My pencil belongs to Joan Hilty and Will Dennis. For at least six months.
A big Diamond Previews hat tip to Allan Harvey.

Thank you for the heads-up!! I use MyComicShop/Lone Star Comics’ “Previews” pre-order and always do a search for “Doran”. This month had the “Girl Comics” pop up and I put it in the basket. Even though it looks good, it is now out of the basket again (I still have for ~$940 in my shopping cart, that is ~$1.346 without the pre-order savings!!).
Mark Evanier posted a similar issue on his blog last week where he was credited as letterer on a couple of books, and I believe inker or some other function on one of them as well. Apparently someone in Marvel’s copy department is either kinda stupid or weirdly angry.
Brian, I’ve now heard from several people who pre-ordered this based on the fact they thought I was in it. I’m so sorry, I only just found out about it.
Christian: I wonder if the problem is not some automatic spell check thing. My mail program has it, for example. I type in a couple of letters, and I am offered a menu of names from which to choose.
If I am not careful, the mail goes to the wrong person. Happened this week. Very embarrassed.
So, maybe an overworked clerk is typing in parts of names, and picking the wrong ones from the menu. And alas, a goof goes on the solicitation.
I hear what you’re saying, Gmail does the same thing. In fact, I have to be careful when emailing my fiancee because both your email and hers begin with ‘cb’, if I don’t put an ‘l’ after that you’d be receiving some potentially inappropriate email from me. Hopefully you haven’t. Not that I email her inappropriate things, mind you. Or at least not very often. I’m good with going with the overworked clerk, though weirdly angry clerk has an odd appeal, too.
I like the weirdly angry clerk angle, too. Maybe he thinks he can take revenge on Iron Man by letting me draw him.

Well, there you go.
I’ve now had about 2 dozen people tell me they ordered this by mistake.
I’m sure it’s a very nice book.
Well, I am a little bit disappointed that you are not in it…
But I’m still buying it! Lookit those big…names!
(and here’s another interesting Previews thingee… January 2010, page 188… There’s a “Women in Comics” icon next to Glamourpuss #12. Tarot #61, as well, but at least Ms. Golightly is the cover model.)
Girl Comics looks like a fun book, but I think I’ll skip the rest.
