Donation Incentive GOODNESS UPDATED
on January 23rd, 2010I have now packed ALL donation incentive orders. EVERYTHING is out of here.
You know what that means! MORE! MORE! MORE! More STUFF!
YOU donate to this website using our handy donation button and help me clean out my closets FULL of cool stuff to help finance more A Distant Soil pages. I have now raised enough money to work on A Distant Soil exclusively for three weeks. My goal this year is to raise enough money on the website to pay for at least three months work. The website is in the black for two years, so income for the year is going toward new books.
Click HERE for previous photos of goodies.
The base donation incentive price is $29.95. For that price, you will get at least $100 worth of goods. You pick the category, and I pick the cool stuff. Example: four hardcovers, cover price $25 each = $100. One DVD, one collectible item valued at $75 = $100.
Many items are sealed and mint, such as X-Files dvd’s. Others are gently used. Some are nifty things like comics company Christmas cards signed by the staff. Others are battered library books which make great reference (many are about doing business in Japan).
These are the donation levels:
BASE donation: $29.95 Available to anyone in the USA and Canada.
FOREIGN base Donation: $49.95 Sorry to charge so much, but shipping heavy books overseas is very expensive.
Super uber cool US/Canada stuff donation $100: This will bring you at least $300 worth of goodies. REALLY cool stuff.
Foreign uber cool donation $150: gets you $300 worth of goodies.
Here are the categories:
The Asia Pack: manga, books about Japan, Japanese language, art, history
Comics and Graphic Novels
Science Fiction/Fantasy/Horror
Colleen’s Stuff: Books, collectibles, original art by me.
Literature/non-fiction/Litcrit/
POP CULTURE: rock collectibles, Disneyana, a mix of WhatEVAH. Music, magazines, books featuring David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Kate Bush, etc
UPDATE: A bunch of the Anne Rice novels just got claimed.
Here are a few of the super-cool wild card items I will send to the lucky people who donate to this site. I will RANDOMLY dole out the cool stuff. No one person will get everything, but I will try to make sure everyone gets something pretty darned good.
A Lord of the Rings Merry Sideshow Weta sculpture bust: going for more than $300 on the collector market.
Clive Barker limited editions, first editions, signed and unsigned. Also the signed and numbered limited edition of Clive Barker’s Shadows in Eden.
Anne Rice signed first editions, hardcovers. Also, a bullwhip autographed by Anne Rice.
Frank Miller signed books
Neil Gaiman first edition hard covers and signed first editions.
A Kyomoto Collection Kamen Rider large scale figure.
The Knives of Legolas, plaque included, sealed.
Lord of the Rings Sideshow Weta Weapons of Gimli
Lord of the Rings Sideshow Weta Weapons of Legolas
Lord of the Rings Sideshow Weta Weapons of Aragorn
Lord of the Rings out of circulation toys.
X- Files dvd’s.
Rock concert backstage passes, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, etc.
A Distant Soil production work including blue line pre-press copies (one of a kind), cover transparencies (one made per printing of book,) color check sheets, etc.
J-Pop collectibles: many very old stickers, audiotapes, a few cd’s. Hikaru Genji, SMAP, Hiromi Go, Toshi, The Checkers, etc. I have NO idea what kind of condition some of these tapes are in, but I am sure you will get a kick out of adding these to your collection.
Many original Japanese editions of manga, some out of print. Mostly shojo or josei.
Many art books and books about art, how-to, etc. Conditions vary, but many are very fine.
I would like to clear out some serious space in the studio, and bring in some serious bucks for A Distant Soil.
The donation button is on the upper left. Just fill in the amount you’d like to donate, and if you’d like to specify a category, do so. Otherwise, I will choose for you.
All packages will be shipped within 2 weeks of receipt of payment or your money back. As those who participated in the last donation incentive can attest, I shipped every item promptly and all arrived in good condition.
For those who have been keeping up, before I started this, you could not walk in my workshop. LOOK! NOW WE HAVE FLOOR!

My bookcases groaned under the weight. And it is not safe to pile books on top of them. Now there is room for some of my LOTR goodies! Its turning into Middle Earth in here. And yes, some of these goodies are going out to readers who donate moolah.

One of these bookshelves will be completely cleared of books and narrow shelves will be added. I will store art in project envelopes on them. My flat files are full! I need more space.
More stuff piled up. Come and get some!

While a lot has gone out, as you see, a lot remains! If you are an Anne Rice fan, sing out. I have almost everything she ever published in pristine hardcover. Ditto for Storm Constantine. If you are a Led Zeppelin fan, I have old backstage passes and other memorabilia.
Lots to go, and don’t be shy about asking for specifics. If I still have it, I am happy to pass it on.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS DONATED! YOU ARE MY PATRONS and I appreciate EVERY ONE OF YOU!

WHEE! LOL!
You guys should be getting this stuff any day now. Please let me know when you do! I’d like to hear if you like what you got. In some cases I wanted to add more to the boxes, but they were full quick!
If the LotR Trivial Pursuit game is something you’re willing to part with, I covet it. None of my friends would let me buy it when I saw it in the stores. Mainly because they flatly refused to play it against me.
If it is up for grabs, would you save it for me until I get paid again? (Well, unless someone else has a burning desire for it. Then I’ll just have to wrestle them for it, of course.)
Sure. It might have to go for more than the standard $30 for minimum donation, because it is big and heavy. It would probably cost almost that much to ship. I’ve been sitting on it for years, so probably should just let it go. I think it is in mint condition!
I finally succumbed to temptation and opened the Legolas swords. Man, they are fine!
I had to take some time to price the LOTR stuff. Some of it is very valuable!
No one is getting my Boromir WETA sculpture! NO ONE!
I found a 1947 Stan Lee “Secrets of the Comics” while digging through here, and sold it to he first person to whom I mentioned it. I scanned some tidbits. It’s a hoot. You’ve got to see it!
By the way, I suppose it is totally goofy to admit I have the Barbie and Ken Aragorn and Arwen.
Also, I will probably end up donating some of the books to sell at the animal shelter. No one has expressed any interest in the Stephen King novels, for example, but they are in great shape. Here’s hoping they can raise money for kitties and puppies.
Sing out and claim them before Rover does.
about the only things I would want would be the *cough* editions in the comic book, not magazine size, that were issued. I had everything until I moved and lost two of them and have never been able to replace them.
not that I believe that you have a set…
OK, let me know what you are missing. I have all back issues.
There are a couple in very low quantity.
@VT: turns out the game is not THAT heavy. No more than a couple of books.
Awesomeness! Payday, glorious payday is only a week away.
Now, I just have to convince some friends to play the game with me… that’s the hard part.
I sent you a reply.
Honestly, I’d have to dig out my ADS stash from storage to see what issues I’m missing.
*innocent whistle*
okay, time to hide my credit card again.
@VT: FYI: It’s the movie universe game, not the book universe.
HAH! But that cool book is gone. Alas for Torsten.
I’ll have to go back out to my wellhouse and dig up more stuff. We’ve shipped about 15 boxes so far. HUGE improvement.
I did find a few things I was missing, including some very nice remarqued editions I was supposed to ship ages ago. they got mixed up with books that went into storage. I can breathe a sigh of relief, but I have to eat some crow with a few customers.
I’m hoping this massive downsizing event will make this sort of snafu a thing of the past.

*SOB* Too late for Stan Lee…
And got an early seat on the Neil Gaiman bandwagon (Orpheus Special) so got most of that stuff signed already… Any Graphitti editions? Pre-1990s GN hardcovers? Awesome strip collections?
I do have some strip collections, some pre-1990′s GN hardcovers. I definitely have some stuff up your alley.
Stan Lee’s still alive…
