He robbed Frank N Furter’s wardrobe.
And needs to return it. It looks better on Frank.
(Can you tell I loathe Emeris?)
YeeeOOOOW! LOL!
OK first off, a friendly reminder. NO SPOILERS! Lots of people are reading online for the first time.
That said, I once got the most hilarious/awful letter about this very costume. The other person loathed it, too. I thought my fingers were going to blister from the flaming.
It’s funny now, but I was stinging for a week after reading that!
Re panel one: Oh the Beardsley, the Beardsley!
It took me a while to decypher the word ‘employment’ @.@;;
I am quite amused by this guys bishi sparkles, by the by, and his outfit. Says a lot about him, as does his pose/expression.
Is the.. ..how do I put this nicely.. ..being a jerk common most of their society, not just those with power? I mean, Rieken is definitely a sweet person, and some just seem cold… ..but I find it interesting that there’s so much sadism in a naturally empathic race. (It’s certainly different then my first thoughts on empathic people would be.)
Not gonna lie…I’m kinda loving his hair!! hahaha oh gosh…I’m gonna have a tumultuous relationship with this character, aren’t I?
@afrodino, that’s how it starts, with the ooing and aaahing… then there’s the running, and the screaming…
I like how the cascade of flames in the robe pretty much leads a path right to Emeris’s grand entrance. Again, the stuff you get when you stare at one page at a time…
Aurora:
They’re not naturally empathic.
Just because they know what you are thinking, that does not mean they care.
That’s one of the things I wanted to turn on its head in this series. That psychic powers would naturally make you a better person. I don’t believe they would.
I’ve not found people who claim to be psychic to be inherently nicer or better, but then, I didn’t think a lot of them were really psychic.
Emeris is such a vamp!
Colleen, I think it’s funny that you got the burning letter from the person who loathed Emeris’ outfit. It’s as if the letter-writer didn’t get it that that’s the POINT. It really is outrageous, but then… that’s the character. After all, consider who summoned him — Sere. This isn’t going to be a relationship of dignity. And one can tell that from just this page.
so, telepathic, just not empathic. Or tel-apathic. I know, I just don’t care.
Or in some cases, “oh please, I have enough drama in my own head, I don’t need yours too” XD
waaaaaitaminute… not a morning person… doesn’t age… sparkling…
aiee run it’s a Twilight vampire!
^oh and can read your mind… that makes him Edward! XDDD
Of course, reading this at work, the first thing I noticed was the …ahem… mammage. Took me a few minutes to decode that the figure was male, and not some ecdysiast. Then I thought: “Cosmic Boy”.
Although, now that I think of it… Emeris seems to be the love child of Cosmic Boy and Starfire. (I think Starfire’s costume has more fabric than CB’s.)
Arlene: yeah you get it.
And not everyone is telepathic, either.
@ Torsten: I still love those old Mike Grell costumes! they were daffy!
I promise, no spoilers.
I always thought a telepathic society would learn how to shield themselves from unwelcome mental intrusions–eventually, including any acknowledgement of another’s pain or distress. Vulnerability would be something left to those who were inferior telepaths–or to those who were trusted beyond all others, in individual situations. And considering that psychopaths abound in all societies, why wouldn’t sadists enjoy tormenting someone while lapping up their mental anguish at the same time?
@Gemina13
Absolute made of win. That is exactly how I conceived it.
When Beys first takes Jason around for a look at the ship, she has to block him because he is an empath. He doesn’t have the skill to block on his own.
Privacy and security are high arts on this world. There are specialists, psi wards like Kovar and Beys.
As much as we wish we could get into each other’s heads, the Ovanan spend time trying to keep others out.
I’ve always thought the idea of telepathy was a pretty thing, but the reality of it, not so much.
of course Jason doesn’t have the skills – Aeren was probably not even aware that his son could have teep before he died, so he didn’t have a chance to teach him what to do and how to do it. Poor kid.
::beams:: Thanks!
That definitely makes sense. When everyone can hear you to some degree, why would you not want to keep them out?
Which makes me wonder about all the things psi wards are able to do, or not do–and at what price.
::sigh:: I love this story. “Complex” doesn’t do it justice.
