Felt terrible when I got up this morning, and made sure to dose with vitamin C.
I was also careful not to overdo the caffeine. Torsten Adair brought me a fabulous jar of chocolate covered espresso beans, which mock me, they mock me, as they sit untouched.
The show has been very, very pleasant with many happy fans. I signed a lot of autographs again today, but sales were slow.
Many people inquired about A Distant Soil, and others who had not seen the book in years who were excited to see it again. It was all quite nice.
Fans, staff, fellow pros, everybody is in a good mood. Getting varying reports of sales successes, but I am not in a position to report on the overall feel of the show, because me, Peter David and Jim Valentino are in the very farthest back row. There are a number of well-known pros who are quite approachable there because it takes three hours of wandering to find them.
The venue is extremely attractive, with high ceilings and lots of windows. It never seems crowded or dark.
I gave an interview for a documentary about Warren Ellis today, which would have been a lot more fun had it not been so freaking cold outside where we were filming. Thought I was going to lose necessary body parts. And some demented seagull plagued us with complaints. I believe I peppered my interview with choice swear words, which, I suppose, aren’t out of place in a documentary about Warren Ellis.
Didn’t buy a thing today, except for some vile drink called Sunny Delight and a banana. So now I am starving and going off to get food.
The nice man from the Dick Blick art supply store says he is trying to get Deleter on their list of products, which would make me a happy woman. This may solve my sad distribution channel problem.
All in all, not a great money show for me, and I continue to turn away commissions. The business side of me cringes when I do, but the side that values my relationships with editors thinks me very virtuous.
I’ve had to pack away most of my things to ship home early. Sorry to anyone who did not get by for some books. I even packed my banner. My flight on Monday is so early, I will not be able to ship my things out before I go, and the show ends too late for me to ship after it’s over. So, I packed it all in now.
I’ll be there later in the afternoon, but I have morning meetings which may delay me until after 1 PM.
I feel much better this evening, and am calling it night. Will get a long sleep and be fresh tomorrow.
Happy faces seen today: Jeff Smith, Gary Colobuono, Carla Speed McNeil, Billy Tucci, Bob Layton.
