I love the composition of this page. Unasis is receptive and still, even though he’s refuting all of Seren’s points; yet even as Seren holds out a hand in entreaty, he’s keeping a blatant distance. It’s as though he doesn’t trust Unasis any farther than he can throw him.
I can’t tell what the foliage is on the wall behind Unasis, but I’m grinning to see that on Seren’s side, it’s lilies. I think.
Oh, you noticed all that which makes me very happy.
The scroll work behind Unasis is based on French designs of the Middle Ages. I wanted to represent Unasis as someone who is sophisticated, good with words. Political. Very French.
Seren gets lilies. But, you notice they are tangled and droop a bit.
Seren has offish, nervous body language.
Unasis knows exactly what he is doing. And is a bit exasperated.
So what would be call this particular case? I vote for “Drama Queen vs. Dominatrix”. Let’s hope D’mer can pull his head out of his cute little bum long enough to admit to being abused (no one deserves to be Emeris’s house pet).
i just love the crotch shot my laptop gives me as I scroll down the image to read the dialogue. Unasis is covered and hidden while Seren’s… well… he could have been wearing a codpiece instead… it’s all up front and visible to the world…
Remember “Wally Wood’s 22 Panels That Always Work”? This is #23.
Nice contrast. The wardrobe. The background. The hairstyles. The pose. The differing crotch shots. (Sorry… couldn’t resist. Especially with that lovely biblical hand gesture of Seren. It draws the eye…especially with that last word balloon.)
I needed to put his hand there to draw your eye away from his package.
um… i don’t think my eyes are drawn away from his package with that hand there…
There’s also an interesting male/female vibe going on here in the body language. Unasis is in a typical male seated posture: bold, brash, confident, legs spread wide, almost in preening display. Seren, on the other hand, is very feminine, closed, demure, legs tightly together. Look at the way people sit on trains and subways and you see this sort of thing all the time.
