Ugh. Now I’m feeling nauseous! What a creepy woman to turn talking about his being abused into an opportunity. Blech! I feel like I need a shower with lots of soap and a brillo pad or two; pity I can’t scrub my brain as well.
ITA. I don’t know why it didn’t bother me so much before, but now… iiiiiiick
Lousy weather here, so excuse the lack of blogging. New pages may be a little late. We keep blinking out.
@Arlene: I am surprised what a different experience the story is one presented when page at a time.
It’s also interesting seeing the different reactions to each scene as it goes up.
I used to love Beys in the comics/gn. Now? I know she’s doing it to get him to her side, but damn! I want to strangle her.
Colleen, it really is interesting reading the reactions page by page.
I think there is something about the “one page a day” (more or less) pace that makes the reader pay much closer attention to all the little nuances in the story and allows the reader time to really think about them.
When I first read this in the book, I did feel that Beys was a bit off in moving in on Jason’s vulnerability. Especially following the earlier conversation where she is warned that she’s drawn to Jason “just because” he reminds her of Aeren. This slower reading pace just seems to amp that up.
Not that I don’t find it understandable — he has the earnestness of “first love” and she’s obviously been suppressing all her feelings at losing Aeren.
I have occasionally wondered at what her reaction was in learning about Aeren’s relationship with Jessica — not just the being with Jessica, but marrying her and having children; staying with Jessica in a way he (apparently) never thought of staying with Beys.
