OPERATION SANTA’S HELPERS
At Christmas, they will use all the money raised on local kids. They arrange a special shopping spree at the local Wal-Mart for underprivileged children. The children will go through the store with an adult volunteer – Santa’s Helpers – and may spend their money on anything they want. This guarantees the children will indeed have a merry Christmas.
In the past, the Santa Maria Aerie raised money to buy bicycles for underprivileged children for Christmas. Now they are expanding their goals, the children could get bicycles and much more.
Instead of raising $2,000 or $3,000 for bikes, the goal now is $15,000. That would allow the Aerie to sponsor 100 children – with the kids spending $150 apiece on anything they want for the holiday.
Wal-Mart is on board. Wal-Mart employees have volunteered and Wal-Mart itself said it would pay all the sales taxes so that each child’s $150 could be spent entirely on Christmas.

DO TO THE REQUEST OF THE CONTRIBUTORS A PART OF THE MONEY SHALL GO TO ST JUDE CHILDREN’S RESEARCH HOSPITAL AND THE COMIC BOOK LEGAL DEFENSE FUND

“Do to the request”….? DUE to the request…
(I’ve just turned into a homonym nazi!)
Yeah, the whole thing was full of typos. I got this thing and tried to take some out before I posted, but missed a few.
I realized that – it’s rough when you’re passing something along, and then realize after that nobody proofed it at the starting point. Heh. I’d just seen a story on TV recently about a couple of guys who go around correcting people’s signs from errors like that (with permission, of course). So this sort of error has been on my mind lately.
Yesterday, I was at the deli counter at my grocery as the guy made up a roast beef sandwich for me. There’s a glass screen between the customer and the sandwich makings, with the sign attached saying “Pleas do not lean on glass”. Yeah, I don’t think the spell checker will catch that.
Best one ever was the actual shop logo for a sign writing company I used to pass on my way to work every morning: … “Proffesional Signwriters”. I kinda doubt they’re still in business.
Talk of typos and signs and such reminds me of this strip:
