ah yes, now I can talk about it! This page, with Keris… remember waaay back oh about issue 2 when Sere put Jason up in a similar rig and Niniri looked at it and said “this is foul”…
Super Foreshadowing FTW!!!
Ah, Sere probably knows quite well why the arrangement would squick Niniri!
These panels give me an “Oh, my God, it’s full of stars” feeling.
Lovely!
So here’s Keris. And . . . gyaaah, Sere is *such* a sadist.
There’s something of a Barry Windsor-Smith vibe about that final panel as Keris goes all Weapon X on us. Interesting page all round actually, as the first panel channels Aubrey Beardsley. You don’t get this sort of art education in any old comic — yet more proof that ADS is one of the finest strips around.
I used to hate drawing backgrounds. One day I woke up and decided they were the bestest thing ever. Now I go crazy on them.
When I was sick there for a couple of years, I had the hardest time drawing backgrounds. Everything seemed incredibly difficult. Not feeling my best for a long time had some sort of weird effect on my ability to think through the drawing process and to concentrate for long periods.
Now I am back doing books with over the top backgrounds. At a time when everything seems to be going cartoony or computery, I will be odd man out.
I have to work all weekend to make up some time. And it’s a weekend of background work. I’ve got a doctor’s appointment Monday, which sucks. But for now, it’s good things to eat, and Torchwood dvd’s, and drawing lots of stuff in the backgounds. Not a bad way to spend New Years, IMHO.
