I just finished reading Lord of Light, which funnily enough has a similar premise. A hierarchy of “gods” (only as such due to technology and genetics) keeps the masses under their thumb and strives to stamp out all technological progress. Semi-failed overthrow of the pantheon by one of the gods. Goes to show that everything original has roots in the same earth!
It’s all so Joseph Campbell.
If you are referring to the Zelazny novel, that was written about the time I was born.
That last panel is breathtaking.
