Black Mermaid For Valentine’s Day

Friday, February 13th, 2009

“Black Mermaid Celebration ” Valentine’s Day ‘Heart of Hearts’” design, featured on our Black Mermaid CafePress shop? There are 27 products in all.

It will be taken off range for 2009 at 11.59pm US Eastern Standard Time.

The Black Mermaid logo in all her website appearances has been exceptionally popular with fans to the point of having a copyright breach a few years ago. People are asking to use her on merchandise, menus, fishing ads, tattoos and even burlesque costumes. Because she is part of our corporate brand we have not given permission for anyone to use her. However, we have now responded to people’s requests to have her on a line of products by opening a CafePress shop which will see her appear in a number of different clothing, paper goods and clothing ranges in the upcoming years. The first complete range is the “Undersea Black Mermaid” range and every few months we will release a new design in the “Celebration Black Mermaid” range. The Easter design will go up next week.

This preview is so sneak peak, even potential publishers haven’t seen it yet!

The cover of Elf-Fin: Hyfus and Tilaweed by Jozef Szekeres and Julie Ditrich of Black Mermaid Productions is going into the portfolio to make the publisher rounds soon. Jozef and Julie have been posting bits and pieces of their epic-in-progress. Note the nice blurb there from Larry Marder!

Here’s the gorgeous cover preview!

Comic Art Beauty at Black Mermaid

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

Our friends at Black Mermaid Productions are posting gorgeous sneak peeks of their upcoming project Elf-Fin. It is unusual to see an artist putting this kind of hand-painted effort into cartoon-influenced images. So many creators have gone digital. It’s lovely to see beautiful modeling devoid of the characterless color one has come to expect from Photoshopped comic art.

I hope you will pop over to the official Black Mermaid website blog
where you can see dozens more images from this project. Jozef Szekeres and Julie Ditrich are working hard on this series. Please support these Australian cartoonists whose work has appeared in Joe Linsner’s Dawn, and Erik Larsen’s Dart. Jozef painted a beautiful pin-up for A Distant Soil, which I really need to get around to posting!

Black Mermaid also created the entire mythos for the Wavedancers series, bringing mermaids and elves together for the first time!
