She just wanted everyone to enjoy the show, have a good time, read the books. She was in SF fandom for the books, and that has become increasingly rare. Even so, she never shut anyone else out.

Like you, I was quite young when I first joined that same local science-fiction club, and Mary was one of the few people to not treat me “like a kid” – and I don’t think I ever really thanked for her that.
