I'm so glad you got treatment that works.

Nothing is more frustrating than dealing with people who have no idea what a migraine is. One guy I knew actually started yelling at me when I told him I had to leave a convention to go throw up. He wanted to attend a show with me so he could get in and man my table. And then he started ordering me around like I worked for him or something. That was his first mistake.

His second was barking "Get back to the table!" when I had a migraine.

I've never quite understood the phenom of dudes who suddenly act like they are boss when they are actually working for you, but he doesn't anymore, so whatever.

Having suffered migraines for 20 years, when people ask me what super power I would want, I always tell them I wish I could inflict migraines on people. I know this sounds mean, but I would actually inflict one on every person that tells me it's just a headache. I would also do this to the people that claim to have them, but still manage to watch television, run errands, work out, talk on the phone, and do every other day to day activity, while in the middle of one.
My wife and I have known each other since we were kids, so she saw me suffer from my very first migraine. She was always sympathetic, accommodating, and understanding about it. Many years later, after the birth of our first child, something hormonally changed in my wife. And for the first time ever, she experienced a migraine. Having never had one, it was sad to watch her rock back and forth, vomit, cry, etc. After the ordeal was over, she came up and apologized to me. She said, "I did not know THIS is what you were going through. I would rather give birth again than deal with a migraine." I hated that she experienced one. But at the same time, it felt good to know she understood my pain that much better. It's been 15 years since then, and she's probably had a total of 3-4 migraine's in that time. As for me, I've tried everything from doctor prescribed, to holistic. Everyone's makeup is different. What ended up working for me is something called Migrelief. It has somehow reduced the frequency and the intensity of my migraines. I've been using it for the last 2-3 years with much success.

Hi Michael,

A doctor can prescribe a beta blocker course of medication, or the triptans, which have done wonders for me. I truly hope you can get your doctor to help you. While my insurance company has raised my premium almost 25% in the last year, I am so much more productive that I am willing to pay it. My medical care has changed my life for the better in every way. I have the energy and productivity I haven't had in more than a decade.

Thanks for sharing. I will talk with my doctor about this. I get migraines very frequently, although the worst I had stuck around for three whole months. They've been getting worse and I feel like my doc has given up on me (very sensitive to medication, so I can't take much, so there's little he can do).

Wow, Byrd, so glad you were able to get treatment. And especially glad your children will not have to suffer through. I remember how sad my mother was when she realized I was getting them. And my dad would be in such excruciating pain sometimes, tears would just roll down his face. This is no way to live.

A few years ago, when they were at their worst, I was in bed and crumpled over and my poor mom sighed "You miss so much of life." She used to have them and hers went away completely. My dad doesn't get severe ones anymore, either.

I have a migraine right now, and just took some medication. I've been fighting one for about 3 days. But unlike in the past, I am actually able to get up and work and function. The discomfort is nothing like it used to be before I found medical treatment.

I started getting migraines as a young adult (70s). My mother had them and her father before her. I just suffered them for a long time as I didn't know if anything could be done. It was only when I had taken my first child (mid-90s) to a check-up and the family doctor asked me what was wrong? I said that I was having a (fortunately milder that day) migraine. He said that his patients often never told him that they had them and wrote me a scrip for a medicine that had recently been developed. It worked in an amazing way.

Last year, my two older kids described "headaches" that they were getting and I knew that the family link had continued. The doctor confirmed and they have meds so they won't have twenty years of pain like I did.

For the past few years I found relief with the coveted Maxalt and also nerve block injections (consist of nerveblock/steriod/novacain) all around my head and some in the neck, generally 15-25 injections. Works great especially as an abortive. Then there is an Occipital Nerve Stimulator (ONS) or also referred to as a spinal cord stimulator. Its pretty much an implanted TENS unit or pace maker type of thing. Esentially it uses an electrical signal to block pain signals via wires ran across the back of your head subcutaneously which connect to a battery/computer chip in you chest or abdomen. Not much pain and outpatient surgery plus the installed device negates most of the residual pain. They are all pretty
effective and would recommend them to anyone with debilitating migraines.

Wow strong text, great that you have managed to get bit better :) My mother always tells me she lost her head aches with menopause and I really didn't know that sudden shrinking feeling was from a migraine, I thought it was just weird. I do get them every once a while, but luckily they haven't been so bad in longest of time. I haven't puked during or lost my vision since elementary.

You're admirable to fight such a bad migraine :)

Asprin cures no migraine in the history of mankind. Most people have no idea what a migraine is and have never had one.

I'm always meeting people with sinus problems who tell me they cure migraines by sticking a peti pot up their nose and giving the old canals a squirt. That may do wonders for your sinus headache, but a sinus headache isn't a migraine. And I get both. No comparison. Not even close.
