A Distant Soil: Seasons of Spring Page 35

I have some really nice auctions on ebay, including some sketches I’m sure you’ve never seen, and an A DISTANT SOIL splash page.

Also, will be cutting back on posting pages here to once a week. I don’t have permission to post unpublished comic pages before they go into print, and I may run out of published material before I get back to print with new stuff.

I am sorry to delay, but I’ve taken on a heavy workload to pay the bills on A DISTANT SOIL. The projects are incredibly exciting, but the load is rough.

What I will do in the meantime, is go back to restoring the lost digital files of the online comic, which means reformatting the pages from the digital editions and posting those at much higher resolution than before. And I will also start posting more unpublished sketches, including paintings and works in progress. That may go on for some weeks, and thanks for your understanding.

Back in the day, I was so opposed to using any kind of shortcuts in my drawings that I wouldn’t even take the time saving measure to use a photostat to repeat the background in panels 1 and 2. That’s just nutty.

We understand. Poor Jason. The feeling left out is coming back again. I mean there’s the twins and now Liana being fussed over. And poor Jason is left out in the cold. I mean he got punched but it seems to pale in comparison to the twins and Liana. Their problems seem more important than his. I get where he’s coming from. Poor baby.

On another note I’m geeking out again at the sight of the Labyrinth Poster. Can’t help it. I’m a 90’s baby but I still love the film

That movie was always a source of argument between me and my sister. She says Jareth doesn’t love Sarah because he kept trying all these things to stop her from winning. I say different because that’s part of the rules. He made himself frightening when she thought he was scary, he reordered time for her, gave her one of her fantasies, he made the tasks harder when she said they were too easy. He was willing to offer her EVERYTHING if she only agreed to love him. (And fear him and do as he says). My sister says that was because he was trying to avoid losing. But you can just see the pain in his eyes when she runs from him in the bubble, again in the Escher room and yet again when she refuses him. He lived up to her expectations exhausting himself. If he didn’t love her he would have just bogged her for her insolence. I think he really did love her. He just didn’t know how to show her due to her being a runner and his own nature. She was young so he tried appealing to that side. I think maybe if he had gone about it differently he might have gotten her but then again she was young and rather childish so that probably didn’t help at all

Sorry for the above Labyrinth Ramble but it just slipped out. It’s just how I feel about the film. I do think they need to expand on the idea of how Sarah got the book, when Jareth fell in love with her and what happens after. Being told you have no power over me by the girl he loves cannot be good for his Glittery Royal Nibs

Not to get all Freudian on you, but I always have seen the struggle between Sarah and Jareth as something of a metaphor for a Young Girl coming to terms with her Womanly Sexuality–

It’s there, I acknowledge its Power and Presence, but I will not let it rule all my decisions hereafter–I am mature enough to control my urges, but still able to play.

Aside from all that, I just really like David Bowie in those tight pants

The story has been very interesting and the future installments will be worth the wait. Looking forward to seeing the new artwork.

Tight pants, tight pants, tight pants David Bowie Aaaaaahhhhh
Of course here in the UK pants DOESN’T mean trousers – it means a much more `intimate’ item of clothing. 😀

Tight pants, tight pants, tight pants Kovar!!! EEEeeeeeeeeeeee

Aww the baby! Poor Jason. I’m curious about the “HELP WANTED No Irish Need Apply” sign though. Is there a specific reason its there?

We recently got to introduce our podlings to Labyrinth. The 4 y/o decided it was too scary and left. The 7 y/o liked it, but not as much as we thought she would. Maybe later when she’s more teen-angsty.

When Jareth made his grand first appearance, I whispered to my husband, “And suddenly across the 80’s, women’s image of the ideal man was radically changed….”

FYI, Jareth’s padded-codpiece costume is on display at the Seattle EMP Museum:
