• BAST Commission

This is a private commission of Bast, before I did some touch ups to the pencil drawing. The final art will be colored digitally and will be my next fundraising print. At my Patreon, patrons who donate at the applicable levels will get this print as part of their patron package! I’m sure you’ve noticed I haven’t been updating this page much lately. Most of my posting activity is on my Patreon. I have posted 200 times on that page since March. New pages from A DISTANT SOIL, process posts, industry rights blogging. If you are interested in supporting, the direct link is here, and support starts at only $1…

  • Cover A DISTANT SOIL 24

Watercolor. This was later tweaked a bit in Photoshop. Have been slow posting new material for awhile. As most of you know, I was pretty sick over the winter and have about 3 months of work to catch up on! I’m also auctioning off a few art goodies on ebay, so check them out! Original sketches, hand painted bookmarks and more coming! Had a GREAT time at Garden State Comic Fest, thank you to the Patreon supporters who came out to see me! I will also be at @WizardWorld Columbus, August 4-6. Use code ColleenDoran at checkout to get 10% off ticket price! And yes, you get 10% off ANY…

  • My Patreon is LIVE! And the final copies of the donation incentive print go out next week.

THE FINAL IMAGE! I figure since the printer tells me I will have the rest of the prints next week, I might as well post it! Seren and D’mer, the final art. Really sorry this took so long, I’m sure I mentioned before how I had accidentally saved the final copy of the original digital art as a low res jpg and it was ages before I realized what I had done. I had to do it over. Oh, well, looks better this time anyway. My PATREON is live, and I am happy to say we roared past the first goal. This is amazing! I will use this money to…

  • Bast

This is a pastel drawing of Bast from many years ago. It’s not quite on model, her features are too delicate. Bast should be queenly. I think there’s a lot of Kelly Freas influence in this piece. He was my mentor when I was a kid. The way I rendered the stones and cloth, the set of the head, the overall style is very Kelly. I recall donating it to one of those industry charity auctions. They had no idea what it was, and my art wasn’t worth much back then, so they sold it as “Portrait of Spanish Lady” and let it go for about $30. I was not…

  • The Avatar

A watercolor portrait of Seren in formal dress as the Avatar. This is cropped badly and is fairly low res, but it is true to the color of the original on my screen. I like this piece, I think it’s an unusual look for comics, and it shows the influence of Sulamith Wulfing on my work. I really want to do more watercolor originals. My schedule is going to be a bit less crazy through Christmas, and I might have time to do a couple. However, it goes back to red alert in January. I’m not complaining. Also, if you are waiting on a shipment, I sincerely apologize for being…

  • A DISTANT SOIL Cover Designs

A few years back when Jeff Smith, creator of BONE was giving me a pep talk, he had a word or two about how my cluttered graphic novel covers were hindering the series. He had his production dude (I think it was Steve Hamaker,) whip up a few ideas to show me what he meant. Here is a look. It was incredibly generous of Jeff to do this. There are several other designs as well. Jeff was thinking ahead to when the series might be collected in one or two massive trade paperback collections! Jim Valentino also thought my old cover work was dated, so when he decided to re-release…

  • Galahad Meets Jeff Smith’s The Red Dragon from BONE

8-23-16 WEBSITE IS UNDERGOING SITE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR, PLEASE PARDON OUR APPEARANCE. The Red Dragon is used with permission. The original watercolor art was sold ages ago, though I tried to buy it back, unsuccessfully. This was scanned from a photocopy, though a pretty good one. I realized I’ve spent the better part of a year posting nothing but pinups and no new story. Image doesn’t want me to post story before it goes in the book, understandably, and I need to build more inventory before we can resume print publishing. I keep thinking I’ll run out of art any day now, but I have so much of it, I…
