the Y chromosome mutates less often than the X one. So, Jason and Seren could have the same, or similar. That would at least make them cousins.
But still… my head hurts thinking about it.

Well, maybe not brothers, but definitely from the same gene pool. There is no way to know exactly what their relationship is unless they got a DNA test, and it would never occur to this society to care.

They’d have been raised as brothers, but there is no cultural context for that relationship on their world. There is no concept of biological family.

Seren and Liana would have to be biologically related.

You’re right, there is no certainty of any biological relationship with Niniri, but she’s the emotional equivalent of Liana’s grandmother.

In a way, Seren is their uncle. If Etan was doing biological experiments and trying to make an “old style avatar” it makes sense that both Aeren and Seren are biologically brothers. Which would make Niniri Liana’s grandmother, at least emotionally.

Yeah, the old version made no sense to me. I think it is far better that Liana (who is actually privy to Rieken’s thoughts) would know exactly what the real meaning of the relationship would be.

Jason, who idolizes his father, is far more anti-social than Liana and who isn’t in Seren’s head, has a more difficult time dealing with it.

And in my experience, girls tend to be more accepting of gay men.

I really like this page. I really like the way Liana just accepts Seren, even knowing how he felt about Aeren.

The Warp version–where Liana was basically doing Jason’s “OMG!ew” routine and Bast had to “lecture” her about her “attitude”… wow. That sequence still stings as the low point of that version. (not just becase I still don’t like/trust Bast 😉 )
