Hi Colleen! All around, a vast improvement over the old site, I’d say. The color scheme alone is a LOT nicer, and I’m really looking forward to rereading ADS from the start!
Just curious, is ComicPress a standalone program or does it work in conjunction with WordPress?
ComicPress is a WordPress plug in. However, I had no luck installing it myself, especially since I had a pre-existing site which created a lot of conflicts. Also, I had no idea how to modify it.
It took me a few days to get comfortable with it, but it is surprisingly handy and adaptable.
Modifying WordPress can be a serious pain in the butt (and part of what I do for a living is web design…). I’ll have to check out the ComicPress site, I have an artist friend who was just talking to me about doing a webcomic blog type thing. Congrats again on the new site, it looks great!
Get yourself a gravatar! I did. My life is so much better!
I am going to be designing some A Distant Soil avatars and posting them here.
WordPress is easy enough for a computer idiot like me to use it, but yeah, modifying it can be nasty business. DC had the site all perfect…and then it went kablooey when we moved it from the test site to the home page because of preexisting files on my server. Id did not know what was in the files, so i was reluctant to move them.
BTW, the colleendoran.com site is also going to be completely revamped. It will be set up as a blog like this, only I won’t be doing anything there but art blogging. Posting non-A Distant Soil comics pages and the like. I won’t be doing much art blogging here except for A Distant Soil stuff.
The site is looking great! I haven’t looked at these early issues in a while. Cute scenes like this one take on a darker tone when you know what happened before and after…
The great thing about it is I can change information and graphics without outside aide. That is a HUGE help.
I am reluctant to post development art because DANG anything I do now is a big fat spoiler for new readers. So, when I post preview art, it will go into the Sketch Gallery instead of one the main page. People can avoid the spoilers that way.
By the way, my deletions at the old blog are proceeding apace.
Grab and save what you can. I have already deleted 3/4 of the posts.
As I wrote before, I am trying to save some of my favorites, and posts with important info. But all those crazy wild and cool Youtube videos of Kirk/Spock are down the rabbit hole.
I’m not worried. There’s always more where they came from.
I’m not sure how geeky this makes me but I really love the whole idea of the gravatars. I’m thinking of making naughty Seren/D’mer gravatars. You have to look real close to see the filthy bits.
Just kidding.
Anyway, it is probably equally geeky that I am fond of the little video ads. I don’t know why, but I think they are cool. Even the H&R Block ones.
Our web traffic has gone up a little bit, but I think it will take awhile before people find the new site and webcomic. Tell your friends and send them here is massive waves and droves.

ooh…so pretty.
Amazing how much nicer this looks on a computer screen, where the white is white, than on the old newsprint copy.

I’m very happy with everything about this site. I think DC McQueen did an awesome job, and I like the yellow and black.

… Aaaand I got me a gravatar. Yay!
Tim
Yeah I went to gravatar earlier and signed up and now I have Hugh Laurie in a powdered wig next to every post. W00t!
Colleen
Soon we will all have gravatars, and we will all spend an inordinate amount of our free time posting new ones.

As it should be. <3

This new site definitely rocks.

Maybe I’ll get a Gravatar later, but the default avatar is pretty close to how I actually look in person.
