A Distant Soil: Immigrant Song Cover
This was the original drawing for the first edition of the A Distant Soil graphic novel. It was originally published in color and has long been out of print. I also heavily altered the original drawing.
I’m sure most readers never heard of A Distant Soil: Immigrant Song. Back in the day, graphic novels were often really short: maybe only 60 pages, so this GN only covered the first 60 pages of the A Distant Soil saga.
The new edition (now entitled The Gathering) covers 240 pages.
I do kinda miss seeing A Distant Soil in color, but our old publisher ditched the negatives, and frankly, the color was kind of bleh by modern standards. It would cost well over $200,000 to bring the series back into print using computer color!
Anyway, here’s a nice chance for many of you to see a version of this cover you may have missed.

Lovely surreal look and feel to it!

Thanks! The original drawing was a lot more simple and a bit awkward, but I didn’t really have to change much to bring it up to speed. So I was happy that the bones of the drawing were solid after many years. It’s a very early published piece, and stuff like that doesn’t always hold up.
