So Seren tells Bast that he is weak and cowardly and all the strength she sees is from Rieken… then he describes how he used to sneak off on dangerous missions. It would seem he is braver than he gives himself credit for.

Katareina – I agree with you. I was thinking along similar lines: abused by Sere (was Etan aware of that?), tortured, sneaking off on missions – and yet he has a sweet (if rather weepy) temperament. He’s made of tougher stuff than he thinks – rather like Liana. Probably why they bonded as they did.
