A DISTANT SOIL: The Gathering Chapter 8 Page 5
Galahad speaks modern Welsh in this scene. I have been told the simple phrases he speaks are accurate. However, I cram studied to learn enough to write this scene, and remember almost nothing of the language now. Which is my approach to every language I have studied. When I no longer need it, it’s down the brain drain!
However, one person pointed out that Galahad should be speaking ancient Welsh! Good sir, there is only so much I am willing to do for my art.

Let’s be honest: you can probably take veracity too far! Modern Welsh works fine and gets the point across without having to research Brythonic or delve into the works of the venerable Bede and his chums.

You are good to me, sir! And to be perfectly honest, I really did give it a bit of a stab. But back in 1980-something, there was simply no getting ahold of anything in ancient Welsh.
I’m not so sure it’s a simple matter nowadays!
Anyway, I bet if I need any more Welsh translations now, I can just find someone on the internet in five minutes and save myself days of effort!

It’s impressive that you went so far as to strive for accuracy of language here!

It was kind of ridiculous, people have no idea how hard it was to get language reference pre-internet

I still thank you for making the effort and giving in to the logical reason that he wouldn’t be speaking modern English.

Thanks, I appreciate it!
