I’m afraid I don’t have a good scan of this. It was painted back in the day before I had computer fu. This is a small painting done with Genesis oils, a type of paint that handles a lot like traditional oil, but dries at 250 degrees in about 15 minutes. You can put your paintings in the oven and work them soon after they dry and cool. Traditional oil paints can take quite a long time to dry and if you don’t wait the proper intervals, your paintings will crackle and may be completely destroyed over time. Many Maxfield Parrish originals suffered this fate.

Kovar
Easily one of my most successful portraits. Hand drawn private commission in pencil. I later colored it digitally with handmade paper, gold and oil emulsion.

A model sheet. I don’t think I ever used this, but I believe I sold it a few years ago.

Brent
This watercolor of Brent is one of the earliest paintings I did for A DISTANT SOIL. I’m not sure, but I think I still have it!

The cover for the digital edition of A DISTANT SOIL issue #4. Pencil and digital. This is one of my favorites.

This was originally painted in watercolor, and though Allan Harvey was kind enough to get me a scan from the original, I redid part of it digitally. I think I may have tweaked it a bit too much, but it is still an improvement over the original. This is one of my earliest paintings for the self published editions of A Distant Soil.

A Distant Soil: Immigrant Song Cover
This was the original drawing for the first edition of the A Distant Soil graphic novel. It was originally published in color and has long been out of print. I also heavily altered the original drawing. I’m sure most readers never heard of A Distant Soil: Immigrant Song. Back in the day, graphic novels were often really short: maybe only 60 pages, so this GN only covered the first 60 pages of the A Distant Soil saga. The new edition (now entitled The Gathering) covers 240 pages. I do kinda miss seeing A Distant Soil in color, but our old publisher ditched the negatives, and frankly, the color was kind…
