The Holy Grail
This is one of my earliest A DISTANT SOIL pieces. Or, perhaps better described as one of my earliest King Arthur pieces.
This pencil art dates back to when I was about 19 years old. It really isn’t bad for a teen. I put it down and picked it up to tighten up a few years later, but it didn’t change much.
I made a print of it and later sold the original for a song, back when my art wasn’t worth very much. Then I saw it for sale again and bought it back. I was able to get very good high quality scans of it. Then I sold it again at much more than I’d bought it back for.
If it comes up for sale in future, I doubt I could afford to buy it back again. My pencil art prices are getting out of hand! Not that I’m complaining.
A well-known publisher asked to do an art book of my work, and I wasn’t too enthusiastic at the time, because I didn’t think my catalogue had enough strong pieces, But as I go through it, it looks stronger than I thought. I could probably do a book of nothing but King Arthur drawings!
Anyway, this week I just finished alternate covers for an extremely popular comic book series, and I can’t wait for you to see them. But I can’t tell you what it is yet. Sorry!

It’s…………………..
(Monty Python’s) HOLY GRAIL!
(My apologies for the cruddy joke)
Should we assume that’s Galahad holding it?

Yes, there’s a lot I like about this piece, warts and all. Naturally, I draw better now, but if nothing else, I had determination when I was a kid. I’d just work a drawing forever.

I know I’m weird… but I really like the detail work in the hair and clothes.

Not at all! What a nice compliment! I love doing details like this and it’s hard to do cleanly in pencil, so I appreciate it when people tell me they noticed!
