Aeren
This colored pencil portrait of Aeren dates from 2001. I think the features are a bit off, but hey, that pic is totes hair band. I haven’t been updating here very much as I am putting most of my effort into the Patreon site and trying to catch up on work. I got the flu in January, and that cost me a lot more time than I thought it would. I’m happy to report I continue to do much better after getting my new treatment for Hashimoto’s Disease, but it’s a roller coaster and not a mountain with a peak. A major issue for me is sugar intolerance, so limiting…

A Distant Soil Cast
This was a pinup done for the new graphic novel editions. If you’re trying to read the whole series here, I’ve got about 400 pages up, then I found out the site could not handle anything at high res. While I’ve reloaded many of the pages, if you get to a page that freezes, please contact me. I don’t know when I’ll get around to loading the entire series, but I appreciate your stopping in to have a look at this big chunk. Loading pages is time consuming, and I’m trying to concentrate on moving forward for now. I haven’t been updating here much. I’m putting most of my time…

Merry Christmas
This year’s Christmas card for my Patreon supporters. Digital. Working very hard through the holiday, have so many projects and good prospects I can’t rest a minute. OK, I overslept last night, but that doesn’t count. For the first time in years, I have been asymptomatic for about 30 days. I have high hopes for next year. I have so much work, so much good news I don’t want to blow anything. I am pushing forward and very determined. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season full of good things! My Patreon is HERE.

BAST Commission
This is a private commission of Bast, before I did some touch ups to the pencil drawing. The final art will be colored digitally and will be my next fundraising print. At my Patreon, patrons who donate at the applicable levels will get this print as part of their patron package! I’m sure you’ve noticed I haven’t been updating this page much lately. Most of my posting activity is on my Patreon. I have posted 200 times on that page since March. New pages from A DISTANT SOIL, process posts, industry rights blogging. If you are interested in supporting, the direct link is here, and support starts at only $1…

Vinyr by Curt Swan
Getting one of my idols, the great Curt Swan, to do a drawing for A DISTANT SOIL was a special treat. I adored Curt, thought he was one of the finest gentlemen I ever met in comics. He was exactly what you hoped the artist of Superman would be: kind, generous, gracious, polite and humble. I cannot say enough good things about Curt Swan. I miss him so much. When he passed away I sat on my back porch and cried so much the cat came running to see what was wrong. If he’d known Curt Swan, he’d have cried, too. I love how Curt made Vinyr buff: of course,…

Etan by James Owen
James Owen is a novelist who used to do comics back in the day. I don’t think he still does comics, but here is his website where you can learn more about his books! As much as I love it when you buy books direct from me at my book store HERE, remember, you can probably save some serious dough getting them from Amazon. However, when you order from me, you get extras, including signed comics and prints!

BAST by Frank Kelly Freas
As many of you know, Frank Kelly Freas was my mentor when I was a kid. I’d hoped to commission him to do an A DISTANT SOIL painting at some point, but his prices were way too high. Also, after he moved out of the area to California and remarried, it was harder to stay in touch. Being able to afford this small piece was a rare treat. It later won an award at the World Science Fiction Convention art show. I never asked him for any art and refused all gifts, so I never had much of his art on hand. Unfortunately, the works I did have were not…

David Mack: Bast, Seren, and D’mer
David Mack’s pen and ink pinup from IMAGES OF A DISTANT SOIL. Spectacular piece! Bast Seren and D’mer looking pretty buff. Was very grateful he did this for me. As much as I love it when you buy books direct from me at my book store HERE, remember, you can probably save some serious dough getting them from Amazon. However, when you order from me, you get extras, including signed comics and prints!

Volume II Prelim sketch
I probably should not admit that I wasn’t happy with the way the painting turned out on the new cover of volume II. I thought it looked a bit stiff. I’ve learned a lot about digital painting since I did it. This prelim sketch has a lot more life to it! Sorry to be running late, finally adjusted to new medication, readings almost in optimal range. Very encouraged, but I have a lot of work to make up. So far behind schedule I didn’t even mind when a job got canceled, I could really use the extra time. I haven’t kept up with my posting here, either, and hope to…

Triad
This is a really early drawing, and since it predates the digital age I don’t have a clear scan of the pencil work. Image used it as a frontispiece at some point and did some tweaking, hence the heavy line around the art. I’d been meaning to do this in color at some point, but I decided to just move on and create something new instead. Patreon has surpassed level 1, we are 20% on the way to level 2! THANK THANK THANK YOU! When we reach level 2, you get 12 NEW pages of A DISTANT SOIL a month, over a YEAR before anyone else sees them!
