I probably should not admit that I wasn’t happy with the way the painting turned out on the new cover of volume II. I thought it looked a bit stiff. I’ve learned a lot about digital painting since I did it. This prelim sketch has a lot more life to it! Sorry to be running late, finally adjusted to new medication, readings almost in optimal range. This is a really early drawing, and since it predates the digital age I don’t have a clear scan of the pencil work. Image used it as a frontispiece at some point and did some tweaking, hence the heavy line around the art.
